About Us
Vision
Our vision is for societies where communities engage, individuals meet and collaborate to increase wellbeing for all.
Philosophy
We believe that well being is influenced by three pillars: nutrition, financial health and social engagement.
Our long term goal is to deliver programs and lead activities that address food scarcity and hunger and promote healthy living through food services and education; that promote confidence and agency by increasing financial literacy; and that strengthen civic bonds and engagement through cultural and social activities. Importantly, we want to help raise awareness for key issues and steer resources generated and marshaled through engaging in public private partnerships with government bodies at the local, federal and international arena, non-government organizations and other private organizations with similar goals.
Food Services
Nutrition and Food Services. Our food services are centered around the preparation and serving of vegetarian food. Our tent at the Olney Farmers Market showcases Indian street food and casual appetizers referred to as Chaat. The quality of our food also has led to several catering services where we champion healthy vegetarian and vegan cuisine. We also offer vegetarian cooking lessons and can tailor this to dietary and learning preferences.
Partnerships
The Washington DC metro area has alarming statistics with well over half a million people facing food insecurity in 2025*.
We seek to establish partnerships and collaborations with government and non-profit organizations focused on feeding the hungry. We aim to make our community better- one well fed person at a time!
We actively seek civic engagement from our patrons in terms of volunteering their time or making donations. Please reach out to us to see how you could make a difference!
Current Volunteer Partnerships:
Since 1982, the shelter has been operating to provide emergency shelter, food, and case management services to families experiencing homelessness to help them move from crisis to stability quickly and in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.
Stop For A Chaat prepare and donate dinners as part of their Deliver a Prepared Meal program. Meals for six families (approximately 25 people) are provided. We are happy to contribute and do our part in terms of helping those in need.
Current Small Business Partnerships:
We are happy to source our Alfonso mangoes from Mango Petee to make our delicious Mango Lassi. We are delighted to support local business and a fellow Olney Farmers Market vendor.
